Walking The Talk
          Cheers to a successful month!
Last time Hannah tried to go for a walk

Here at Breast Cancer Partnership towers we are rather good at dishing out advice. Question is, are we any good at taking it?

We’re about to find out as, in aid of Breast Cancer Awareness month, two of us put ourselves to the test. It is time we heeded our own advice to prevent breast cancer.

The lazy scared of exercise one
Hannah is our Executive Director. She eats what she hopes is a pretty healthy and nutritious diet, and is sure to take her vitamin D supplements to top that up. But what she doesn’t do, pretty much ever, is exercise.
In my group of friends, I am definitely the laziest one and certainly do the least exercise. It has just never been part of who I am or what I do. It is time I got over the fear and got sweaty and breathless. I spend every day trying to help other women prevent and recover from breast cancer. Now I need to do the same for my self. No matter how much my annoyingly athletic and fit friends laugh at me. It’ll be worth it. Won’t it?’

Over the next month, Hannah has pledged to try at least one new form of exercise every week. Photographic evidence of each activity will be uploaded for your enjoyment and Hannah must pick something she’ll continue with regularly once the month is up. We’ll be watching. Read Hannah's Blog...

The social butterfly who enjoys a drink
Claire manages all our programme services. She is the one who oversees cheques being sent to people with cancer who are struggling with their bills, sorts out lots of our fundraising and organises all the toys and books to go to children with cancer in hospital. Naturally, much as we pride our lovely work place, it can be a stressful job.

When she gets home from work she likes to open a bottle of wine and enjoy a glass or two.

“I try and eat healthy and I manage to make it to the gym once or twice a week but I probably regularly drink over the governments recommendations (14 units for women per week - equivalent to one 175ml glass of wine a day). I don’t drink everyday but it adds up; a glass of wine after work to wind down, sharing a bottle with hubby over dinner, a few drinks with friends on a Friday night! I help women recover from breast cancer every day, so I know how devastating it is as a disease. I must do what I can to prevent it for myself. So in an effort to take stock and change some habits’ for the better it will be interesting to see how I will find not drinking at all!”

Claire will give up all alcohol for a whole month. Her husband, mother and in-laws are sponsoring her so there’ll be no getting out of this one! Read Claire's Blog...

Keeping up to date
They’ll both let you know how they are getting on through this website and their blogs (Hannah... Claire...), our twitter account and facebook page. If you would like to find out more or offer them some additional advice, drop them an email. Feel free to taunt them at will:
