More than 90 percent of people in the United Kingdom who have survived cancer completed at least one course of treatment using conventional cancer care. This involved treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation, hormonal therapy and surgery. It is clear that survivors choose the traditional Western medical approach as part of their recovery programme.

Of the 600 cancer survivors most recently surveyed by Cancer Recovery Foundation, most took an active role in their own medical care. This included insisting upon second opinions, asking relevant questions of their health care professionals, refusing treatments if they were not convinced of the benefits and in many cases changing doctors.

Symptoms and Diagnosis of Cancer

The symptoms of cancer include bleeding, lumps, bone pains, poor appetite and fatigue. Cancers are often first detected when such symptoms develop and subsequent diagnosis requires the use of tests such as CT scans, blood tests and X-rays. By studying tissue samples taken from affected organs, pathologists can supply valuable information.

Cancer Treatment

When deciding upon a course cancer treatment, various factors have to be considered, including the tumours location, the stage of the disease and the patients general health. Surgical removal of the tumour might be possible if the cancer has not spread. If it has spread, then recourse to radiation therapy or chemotherapy is likely, though they can have serious side effects.
