Prostate Cancer
The prostate gland is part of the male genitalia and is located in the pelvis under the urinary bladder. It helps to produce and store semen.
What is prostate cancer?
Prostate cancer develops when cells mutate and multiply uncontrollably in the prostate. Such cells can metastasize (spread) to other areas of the body, particularly lymph nodes and bones. Because of its location prostate cancer often affects urination, ejaculation and albeit rarely defecation.
Can I prevent it?
There are things you can do every day to decrease your chances of developing prostate cancer. Step to follow:
1. Don’t become overweight. It sounds simple, it makes a big difference.
2. Eat a diet with lots of fruit and vegetables. Tomatoes are particularly good as they are loaded with lycopene, which is an antioxidant.
3. Have sex or masturbate regularly. Ejaculating 12 times or more a month has been shown to increase your chances of avoiding prostate cancer.
4. Exercise regularly. Enjoy it, and don’t give up as you get older.
5. Get outdoors for some safe sun and a very good dose of Vitamin D. You should also consider taking a supplement of 2000 IU. This would be particularly helpful during the Winter months.
6. Discuss your prostate cancer risks with your doctor before having a vasectomy as the two have been linked.

How will I know if I do have it?
In its early stages prostate cancer usually develops without any symptoms. Symptoms can include: needing to urinate more often, problems starting or stopping urination, a painful burning sensation whilst urinating or blood in urine. Other signs can include: stiffness or pain in the thighs, lower back, pelvis or ribs, tiredness, nausea and vomiting, weight loss and poor appetite.
