Happy Mother's Day

Claire's Blog
So it’s Mother’s Day again – a day to honour mothers everywhere and say thank you. As a mother-to-be, expecting my first baby in the summer, I am definitely developing empathy for all the mums out there.

My pregnancy has not only brought a lot of excitement for me and my husband but also a lot of anxiety. I find that I now worry about everything - not only every twinge and ache but also money and our future - it’s tiring to say the least. After my 20 weeks scan, when we found out all was going well with the baby so far, I said to my husband “maybe we can stop worrying so much now” and he said to me “ this is only the start honey, the worrying never ends – not for at least the next 18 years if not more!” And he is right.

New Years Resolutions โ€“ Living the dream or a waste of time?

Claire's Blog
One of my friends this year has said that her New Years resolution for 2012 is not to make any resolutions. Is she missing out or are New Years resolutions just a waste of time?

May be not - all we need is just some inspiration; to re- think our new year’s resolutions, change our approach and get more out of them.

I have always liked the philosophy New Year, new you but I have noticed that often when it comes to picking resolutions the positivity stops there. They all seem to focus on giving something up; giving up chocolate, junk food, alcohol, smoking etc. Even though these are good things in the long term the fact that over night we decide to deprive ourselves of something that we previously enjoyed can be quite a shock and you feel a loss - no wonder we start to feel sad.

Getting Ready For Christmas

Claire's Blog
'So here it is Merry Christmas ……..'

There is now just two weeks till Christmas! Are you ready? No – Me neither! With moving house unpacking and trips to Ikea, I haven’t had a chance to do much for Christmas and I suppose I should really get a move on!

At Cancer Recovery Towers though it’s been a different story - Christmas has truly arrived!

Christmas Shopping
Although my friends and families’ prezzies are on hold for the moment, I have been busy buying presents for our Christmas batch of gift bags. It’s one of my favourite parts of my job but it’s actually harder than it sounds. Imagine Christmas shopping for a family of over 2000 children whose ages range from toddler to teenager!

Walking The Talk - Weeks Three and Four

Claire's Blog
So I have reached the end of my challenge month and I am feeling very proud of myself. It’s definitely been difficult at times but all in all it’s been rewarding and I made it through with no real dramas along the way. A big thank you to my colleagues at Breast Cancer Partnership towers, family and friends who have supported and encouraged me and sponsored – I managed to raise just short of £160 in the end.

Before I deliver my final thoughts on the challenge - a quick update on the past couple of weeks…

So unfortunately ‘Mocktails’ in week 3 had to be postponed due to illness (bar staff not me I hasten to add) – so instead I had a go myself at home. Here is my recipe; all that’s missing is the rum so it was an easy one to adapt.

Walking The Talk - Week Two

So I have made it to week 3, though I am starting to get a bit more fed up and I am definitely missing my wine.

This last week (week 2) for me has been all about de-stressing. House hunting and decorating is getting to me and pressure has started to build. Normally, when I have had a stressful day, I wind down with a glass of wine so what to do instead? So began my mission to find my Zen.

Let me set the scene, not only did my challenge start on the hottest weekend in the history of autumn (therefore much temptation for barbie beers and sunshine spritzers), but I have been attempting to re-decorate my kitchen and flat hunting. Tough.

However, to quote Madonna, “I made it through the wilderness, some how I made it through” … and I am now on day 12 – that’s one working week and two weekends of no drinking down. And I have lost 2lbs which is a Brucie bonus!
